I morse var jag inbjuden till Radio P4 Västernorrland. Vi firade att Ingrid Vang Nyman – som illustrerat Pippi Långstrump – skulle ha fyllt 100 år i år. Jag är nog bara en av alla de illustratörer som älskar och påverkats av Ingrids illustrationer. Jag kan inte föreställa mig att någon skulle ha kunnat ge Pippi ett bättre uttryck. Ingrid gjorde levnadsglada barn som fick ta plats, med starka färger och ett alldeles eget perspektiv (kan det ha berott på att hon var blind på ett öga?) och den svenska barnbokskonsten skulle för alltid vara förändrad. This morning, I was invited to Radio P4 Västernorrland. We celebrated Ingrid Vang Nyman – who made the book illustrations of Pippi Longstocking – would have turned 100 years this year. I guess I’m just one of the illustrators who love Ingrid’s art and are influenced by Ingrid’s illustrations. I can’t imagine that anyone would have been able to give Pippi a better expression. Ingrid drew children who were full of life, with strong colors and a completely different perspective (it might have been because she was blind in one eye?) A bold and modern expression for a bold and modern girl like Pippi. And the Swedish children’s book art would never be the same again.
